Suttree by Cormac McCarthy / Audiobook / Audible ~ Suttree is an unusual book as much of the content (every second or third sentence!) is comprised of beautiful descriptors, poetic metaphor and simile, most of which is irrelevant to the "story". Which takes me to the big problem with Suttree as a novel.

Suttree by Cormac McCarthy - Meet your next favorite book ~ Suttree is an unusual book by McCarthy, for it lacks the genre conventions he sometimes employs and subverts. Here there is no plot, and it is focused on the picaresque adventures of the eponymous hero and his gang of misfits and compatriots. Comic misadventures and schemes a lĂĄ Twain occur, passages of beat gutter poetry, stark imagery and .
Cormac McCarthy's *Suttree* : books ~ I finished Suttree about two weeks ago, it was the last McCarthy book I had to read (probably because it's the longest). I enjoyed it initially, like most of his books the description conjured up great images of Suttree's grotesque world, but I lost interest shortly after the prison flashback and the whole thing started to feel like a chore, like it wasn't going anywhere.

Suttree by Cormac McCarthy: 9780679736325 ~ Praise âSuttree contains a humour that is Faulknerian in its gentle wryness, and a freakish imaginative flair reminiscent of Flannery OâConnor.â âThe Times Literary Supplement (London) âAll of McCarthyâs books present the reviewer with the same welcome difficulty. They are so good that one can hardly say how good they really are. . . .
: Suttree (Audible Audio Edition): Cormac ~ The assumption then is that the remainder of the book will gradually reveal more clues about the identity of Suttree and how he got to be there. But this is McCarthy and what you expect rarely happens. As usual by the end of the book there are more questions and puzzles hanging in the air than answers. You are left to draw your own conclusions.
Suttree - Review â Pop Mythology ~ 'Suttree' is arguably as good of a book as 'Blood Meridian,' and for some readers, it may be more palatable than the relentless but beautiful dirge of the latter work. It deserves a place alongside the latter as one of the greatest works of 20th Century American fiction.
: Customer reviews: Suttree ~ Suttree is no exception, but humor does seep into his story at various points. I call this Cormac's most readable book, based simply on the number of times I had to leave the book to look up a term or word. Supposedly this book has no plot. I disagree. I think that Suttree himself is a sort of drifter who we simply accompany.

SUTTREE / Kirkus Reviews ~ Cornelius Buddy Suttree shares the three-fold plight of nearly all Cormac McCarthy heroes: he is an unregenerate loner-outsider, his unwavering isolation is never fully accounted for, and his present life and station are described with a poetic force that at once overwhelms and repels analysis. Suttree has left his well-to-do Knoxville family, has bought an old houseboat, and makes his living .

Suttree by Mccarthy, First Edition - AbeBooks ~ Suttree differs considerably in length, scope, and tone from his previous novels but was well-received by critics. Suttree - The New York Times ~ "Suttree" is a fat one, a book with rude, startling power and a flood of talk. Much of it takes place on the Tennessee River, and Cormac McCarthy, who has written "The Orchard Keeper" and other novels, gives us a sense of river life that reads like a doomed "Huckleberry Finn." The river has lost its kind edge.
Suttree Themes - eNotes ~ Suttree is a large novel, epic in some ways, and it is densely and richly thematic. One of the novel's most significant thematic clusters concerns Suttree's quest for personal spiritual growth.
